Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Local arts and crafts are integral to cultural heritage and economic development, providing livelihoods and preserving traditions. In Bida Local Government Area (LGA), Niger State, renowned for its traditional brass works and pottery, promoting local arts and crafts has become essential for sustaining cultural identity and boosting economic opportunities. Public relations (PR) plays a critical role in this effort by raising awareness, fostering market linkages, and engaging stakeholders. Research by Ibrahim and Suleiman (2023) highlights the importance of PR in promoting cultural industries and driving economic growth. This study examines PR strategies for promoting local arts and crafts in Bida LGA.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the cultural and economic significance of local arts and crafts in Bida LGA, challenges such as limited market access, lack of awareness, and competition from modern products persist. PR strategies have the potential to address these challenges, but their application and effectiveness in promoting local arts and crafts remain underexplored. This study investigates how PR can enhance the visibility and marketability of local arts and crafts in Bida LGA.
